Prospero’s Books (the Crouch End bookshop) closed

I’ve written a few posts recently about ebooks, but in spite of that I learnt with sadness that this lovely shop in Crouch End has recently closed. Supportive of local authors and small presses, it always carried an interesting selection of books. Fortunately their sister shop, the Muswell Hill Bookshop, survives Prospero’s for now.

If you’re lucky enough to have a bookshop close to where you live – don’t take it for granted. Use it or lose it. The manager who took the decision said in The Bookseller. “The two basic reasons for the closure were, a) competition from mainly the internet and b) we had a big rent hike.”

Note to self: try and buy more books from shops this year.
